m International Background and Experiences of Petroleum University of Technology
Over 80 years of experience, and expert and experienced professors
Collaborating with prominent international universities in holding postgraduate courses related to upstream and downstream petroleum and gas industries including Dual Degree Project with Australian Curtin University, Canadian Calgary University, and French IFP University
Dispatching students to prominent foreign universities in the workforce recruitment crash project related to upstream and downstream petroleum industry for 1999-2003 Attracting adjunct professors from prestigious foreign universities, particularly Iranian professors teaching or working abroad
Providing resources to Offer courses in English language due to proficient professors in addition to use of English specialized textbooks available at the University’s libraries Recruiting experts from petroleum industry to teach and hold workshops
The Structure of the University’s Relationship with the Petroleum Industry
Thanks to the unique coherency and unity Of its administrative system and workforce with the Ministry of Petroleum, Petroleum University of Technology has been collaborating with experts and elites Of petroleum, gas, and petrochemical industries on three levels of tenured faculty members, research professors supewising students’ theses, and adjunct professors teaching academic and specialized courses. Thus, Petroleum University Of Technology has always had a connection with the industry. This relationship has had ups and downs over the years due to policies adopted by the Ministry Of Petroleum, but the University has always been eager to maintain this relationship.
This university was one of the first in Iran to implement sabbatical leave for professors to attend industry operations, and some Of its faculty members are currently deployed temporarily in petroleum industry operations. Furthermore, one of the unique initiatives launched by this university was the introduction Of three industry internship courses, which, in conjunction with precise supervision of faculty members on the manner of passing the internship courses, provide appropriate conditions for students to get a on the working environment in Iran’s petroleum industry. It is worth noting that internships at other universities in Iran are not taken seriously due to industry limitations and thematic prioritization at those universities.
Thanks to the relationship between the Ministry of Petroleum and the Petroleum University Of Technology, students have educational and practical field trips while studying and in accordance with courses, which are an integral part of the university’s education programs.
Courses such as Unit Operation, Applied Heat Transfer, Applied Fluid Mechanics, and Process Control, for example, are taught concurrently at Abadan Institute Of Technology by professors from Petroleum University of Technology and experts from Abadan Refinery Co. In general, approximately 30% of this university’s specialized courses are taught by industrial experts or co-taught by university professors.
